Total Oxidant Status (TOS) is an important indicator for evaluating oxidative stress levels in organisms. It reflects the degree of oxidative stress by quantifying the total concentration of oxidant molecules in biological samples. Assessment of total oxidant status helps to better understand the mechanism of oxidative stress in various diseases and provides a scientific basis for the prevention and treatment of related diseases. Oxidative substances in the sample can oxidize Fe²⁺ to Fe³⁺. Fe³⁺ further reacts with xylenol orange to form a blue-violet complex, which exhibits a characteristic absorption peak at 560 nm. The total oxidant status of the sample can be characterized by changes in absorbance. |
